Construction accident in Mundelein, 8/16/16
Excerpts from the ChicagoTribune.com: A construction equipment accident occurred early Wednesday morning when a piece of machinery overturned into a ditch, injuring a worker and spilling fuel. The incident took place near a lake in Mundelein, where crews were working on a large ditch under a roadway. Mundelein Police Chief Eric Guenther reported that the operator of the machine managed to escape unharmed and was walking around before police and firefighters arrived at the scene. According to Guenther, the crane attached to a front loader was lifting a drilling machine out of the ditch for refueling when an imbalance caused both machines to fall into the ditch. The accident highlights the risks involved in heavy machinery operations, especially in tight or unstable environments. Emergency crews quickly responded to the scene to ensure the area was secure and to assist with any potential hazards from the spilled fuel. Several photos captured the aftermath of the incident, showing the excavator partially buried in the ditch and emergency personnel on the scene. The images, taken by local photographer Tim Olk, provide a visual account of the event and the efforts made to manage the situation.
