In May 2012, the Guangdong Provincial Government issued the “Proposal for the Promotion of the Use of LED Lighting Products in Guangdong Provinceâ€, requiring the full application of LED lighting products in the public lighting field within 3 years.
Li Xinghua, director of the Provincial Science and Technology Department, believes that there are two major reasons for Guangdong to use the government's hand to drive the LED consumer market. First of all, as a major energy consumption province, Guangdong has a lot of pressure on energy conservation and emission reduction. LED is a new generation of energy-saving and environmentally friendly light source, and its lamps are durable and easy to manage, and the economic benefits of the application are outstanding. At the same time, Guangdong Province is the fastest growing region in the domestic LED industry, and the industry has been included in the strategic emerging industries that the province focuses on fostering and developing. Therefore, the promotion and application of this product can be described as two-fold: one can save energy and reduce emissions, and stimulate the development of the industry, in order to achieve the goal of achieving an annual output value of more than 500 billion yuan by the provincial government by 2015. The province has so far promoted and applied more than 800,000 LED street lamps, more than 2.1 million indoor LED lighting products, more than 20,000 kilometers of applied road sections, and an overall energy saving of 55. The accumulated energy saving is nearly 1 billion kWh, equivalent to 350,000 tons of coal. The scale of application is among the best in the country.
These innovative measures in Guangdong are highly concerned by the relevant state departments and brother provinces.
