On Monday, January 11, 2016, the Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Protection District (FPD) conducted a wet-down ceremony to officially put their new Squad 19 into service. Despite the cold and harsh weather conditions, which made it difficult to use water outdoors, firefighters and officers brought the new fire engine into the station, and some members of the crowd used a hardline inside the building to complete the tradition.
The event was not only about launching a new unit but also served as a heartfelt tribute to firefighter and paramedic Brad Hytoff, who had passed away earlier that year. His family was in attendance, and his parents placed a dedication plaque on the driver’s side door of the new engine.
