China's Hybrid City Bus R&D Capabilities Ranked among the World's Most Advanced


On January 12, Dongfeng Motor Co., Ltd.'s achievements in key technologies for energy-saving and emission reduction of hybrid urban passenger cars won the second prize for China's scientific and technological progress in 2009. The technical leader of the project said on the 12th that as the hybrid city buses using this technology were put into commercial operation in Beijing, Wuhan, and Hangzhou, the research and development capabilities of Chinese hybrid city buses have already ranked among the world's advanced levels.

According to Huang Jiateng, the first person who completed the project and the director of the technical center of Dongfeng Motor Company , the Dongfeng Hybrid City Bus is a major project of the national 863 electric vehicle and is an important product of the Dongfeng Company facing the future new energy automobile market. It was developed in 2005. The successful completion of the trial operation of the first “Green Bus” in China in Wuhan that year attracted the attention of the Chinese and foreign public transport industries. Over 40 cities including Beijing and Hong Kong sent representatives to visit and negotiate.

Two years later, the Dongfeng Hybrid City Bus achieved mass production and sales. It was listed as a “new energy vehicle project in China” with 10 cities in China and was officially put into commercial operation in cities such as Wuhan, Beijing and Hangzhou. During the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, 15 Dongfeng hybrid electric buses successfully completed the event service in the core areas of the Olympic venues, and achieved zero-fault and zero-accident safe operation. They were highly valued by the society and the organizing committee of the Olympic Games.

At present, this product has been the first in China to achieve mass production and sales, and has obtained four product announcements, forming a total of four models of five types of vehicles. The overall technical level of the products has reached the leading domestic and international level; it has created the earliest demonstration operation in China. , Earliest product announcements and other records; the formation of nearly 50 patents, computer software copyrights and national standards, the vehicle has 100% independent intellectual property rights, 100% independent development and production of key components.

Huang Jiateng said that compared with traditional passenger cars , the fuel consumption per 100 kilometers of the Dongfeng hybrid bus was reduced by 30%, and harmful gases such as carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, and nitrogen oxides were reduced by 74% and 2% respectively. Fourteen percent and 28 percent achieved leaps and bounds in key energy-saving and emission-reduction technologies, making the research and development capabilities of Chinese hybrid city buses among the world's most advanced.

Screw Chiller is called screw chiller because of its key component-compressor. The unit is made of gas refrigerant from the evaporator; after the compressor is adiabatically compressed, it becomes a high temperature and high pressure state. The compressed gas refrigerant is cooled and condensed in the condenser at equal pressure, and after condensing, it changes into a liquid refrigerant, and then expands to a low pressure through a throttle valve to become a gas-liquid mixture. The liquid refrigerant under low temperature and low pressure absorbs the heat of the material to be cooled in the evaporator and becomes gaseous refrigerant again. The gaseous refrigerant re-enters the compressor through the pipeline and starts a new cycle. The principle flow of screw chiller is divided into air cooling and water cooling.
