Pass Isuzu and GM to Terminate Diesel Engine Cooperative Development

Japan Economic News quoted Susumu Hosoi, president of Isuzu, as saying: "Isuzu and General Motors will terminate the joint development of diesel engines."

GM no longer informs Isuzu about the design of its next-generation diesel engines. Instead, it plans to independently develop diesel engines.

The personnel and funds invested by Isuzu in the joint venture with GM will be transferred to the Isuzu-owned truck production line. In addition, Isuzu plans to stop contracting production of generic pickup trucks in Thailand from summer 2011.

Reuters reported that Isuzu and General Motors intend to continue producing engines in joint ventures in the United States and Poland. However, Hosoi stated that once the technical cooperation between Isuzu and GM was terminated, both parties would have no need to co-operate in the joint venture company.
