Late last night, around midnight, the 15th Battalion arrived at 38th and Ashland Avenue (specifically at 3752 South Ashland) to respond to a reported structure fire. Within about 20 minutes of their arrival, they determined that the situation required more resources and called for a Still & Box assignment. At that point, they decided to pull all personnel out and transitioned to a defensive firefighting strategy. One firefighter was seriously injured during the operation and was quickly transported to the hospital by A68. The firefighters deployed three 2.5-inch hoses and utilized three aerial master streams to combat the blaze. The aerial master streams were provided by TL39, AT8, and Sq1’s Snorkel. Eventually, a 2-11 assignment was requested by 2-2-4, but most of the responding units weren’t needed. It's worth noting that this was the first fire where AT8’s brand-new apparatus used its pre-piped waterway feature.
