New tender for Cary FPD
This message is from Michael Douglass, Lieutenant and Public Education & Information Officer with the Cary Fire Protection District. We recently received our new fire tender, number 270, and I’ve shared some photos to update the Chicago Area Fire website. Tender 270 is based out of Station #2 and features a Kenworth T370 chassis equipped with a 3,000-gallon water tank and a 500-gallon-per-minute pump. One of the standout features is the rear-view camera system, which helps the driver see what's directly behind the vehicle—great for maneuvering in tight spaces or around obstacles. We also have a single 3,000-gallon port-a-tank that allows us to quickly dump all the water, enabling the tender to leave immediately for refilling. Previously, we had two 2,100-gallon tanks that required individual setup and connection before they could be emptied, which was time-consuming. The new design streamlines this process and saves valuable time during emergency operations. The supply hose configuration has been updated, and the pump panel is now located behind a roll-up door on the body of the truck. This change helped reduce the overall length of the tender by about four feet compared to the older model. The new tender arrived in mid-August and officially went into service on August 30th. We’re excited about its improved efficiency and safety features.  Cary Tender 270. Michael Douglass photo The rear of the new tender. Michael Douglass photo Driver’s side of Tender 270.
