The Oak Park Fire Department was called to report a partial building collapse this afternoon in the 200 block of Harrison Street, specifically between 201 and 211, at the southwest corner of Harrison Street and Lombard Avenue. The incident occurred around midday, drawing a quick response from local emergency services.
Dan McInerney, a local reporter, was on the scene and provided detailed photos and an account of the event:
> "Oak Park fire crews arrived with three engine companies, two ambulances, a command van, and the Mabas Division 11 Technical Rescue Vehicle at 1:50 p.m. They found a one-story, L-shaped commercial building measuring approximately 150 feet wide by 100 feet deep. A section of the brick facade along about 100 feet of Harrison Street had collapsed onto the sidewalk. Fortunately, no one was injured in this busy commercial area, though two cars parked in front of the collapsed section were slightly damaged by falling debris. The eastern part of the building has been under renovation for some time. Firefighters searched the pile of bricks along the sidewalk for any potential victims. The crews remained on-site for about 90 minutes securing the structure and utilities before handing over the site to the building department."
Several images captured the aftermath of the incident, showing the extent of the damage and the efforts made by first responders to ensure public safety. These photos are available for viewing, offering a visual record of the event.
