It was just after 2 AM this morning when the Long Grove Fire Protection District and neighboring fire departments were called out to a house fire on N Tiffany Court in Kildeer. Thick plumes of black smoke billowed from a large, two-story home, prompting the dispatch of a MABAS Box Alarm right off the bat, quickly followed by a second alarm. Within mere minutes, the entire house was completely engulfed in flames, with fire shooting up over 60 feet into the sky.
The residence was located in a remote subdivision without any nearby hydrants, so the response was escalated further with a third alarm and an additional fifth alarm specifically for tenders coming in from counties like Cook, Lake, McHenry, and even Kenosha.
Water supply operations were extensive, involving four portable tanks and numerous tenders ferrying water from two different fill sites. Engines from Lake Zurich and Lake Bluff were busy drafting water, while a quint from Buffalo Grove, another from Barrington, and lines from Long Grove Squad 55 were all being supplied with water.
Attached are some photos taken by Larry Shapiro, capturing the intensity of the fire. The images show the sheer scale of the blaze, with flames consuming everything in their path. Emergency services worked tirelessly to contain the situation, relying heavily on mutual aid from various districts to ensure they had enough resources to manage such a challenging fire.
Despite the remoteness of the location and the lack of hydrants, the firefighters managed to establish a reliable water supply system using portable tanks and tenders. Their coordination and efforts were crucial in preventing the fire from spreading further.
For those interested in viewing more images or following the progression of the firefighting efforts, there are additional photos available through the gallery. Each photo offers a different perspective of the scene, highlighting the magnitude of the operation and the dedication of the firefighters involved.
The fire presented a significant challenge due to its rapid spread and the difficulty in accessing water. However, thanks to the combined efforts of multiple fire departments, the situation was brought under control, minimizing potential damage and ensuring public safety.
I'll continue to update this post as more details become available, but for now, it's clear that the teamwork and resourcefulness of the firefighters made all the difference in managing this intense house fire.
