Around 4:30 PM on Sunday, October 16th, 2016, the Buffalo Grove Fire Department received a call from a concerned neighbor reporting smoke coming from the roof vents and rear of a house located at 1400 Caren Court. When firefighters arrived on the scene, they found thick black smoke billowing from the first-floor rear of the building and quickly upgraded the initial Code 3 alarm to a Code 4 working fire. Mutual aid was requested from neighboring departments including Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Long Grove, Arlington Heights, and Rolling Meadows, as well as all available units from Buffalo Grove. Despite the entire house being filled with smoke, firefighters managed to contain the blaze to just one room on the first floor.
The response was swift and coordinated, with multiple agencies working together to bring the situation under control. Photos taken by Larry Shapiro capture the intensity of the firefighting efforts, showing firefighters swapping out air tanks, dragging hoses, and working tirelessly to extinguish the flames. One particularly striking image shows a firefighter rescuing pets from the burning home, while another captures a weary firefighter moments after the fire was brought under control.
The community came together to support those affected, with residents offering assistance and comfort to the homeowners who lost so much. It's heartening to see such solidarity during challenging times. For more images from the incident, you can visit shapirophotography.net. This event serves as a reminder of the bravery and dedication of our local firefighters, who put their lives on the line every day to keep us safe.
