One car MVA in Wheeling, 9-23-16
This is from Larry Shapiro: On September 23rd, 2016, just before noon, Wheeling police and fire units were called to 92 George Road after a one-car accident with someone trapped inside. Upon arrival, they found a small SUV wedged sideways on the support cables of a utility pole in front of a home. The driver was conscious but unable to exit the vehicle on their own. Firefighters quickly arrived on the scene and worked to stabilize the car. Once secure, they carefully extracted the driver and transported them to the hospital for further evaluation. It was clear that the situation was serious, and additional help was needed to make sure everything was handled safely. A crew from ComEd was brought in to assess the damage to the utility pole. After evaluating the situation, they determined that the pole had been compromised. To ensure safety, they used a truck-mounted boom to secure the pole before cutting the two steel cables, which allowed the vehicle to be lowered safely to the ground for removal. The rescue operation involved specialized equipment like the Rescue 42 Jack Stabilizers, which played a crucial role in keeping the car stable during the extraction. Local crews worked efficiently under pressure, showing the kind of coordination that’s essential in emergency situations.
