Established under the expertise of Tianhua Chemical Machinery and Automated Research and Design Institute, the "National Drying Technology and Equipment Engineering Technology Research Center" was officially approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology in November 2007. Since its inception, the center has successfully advanced its objectives and carried out engineering technology development tasks efficiently. Significant achievements have been made in the development of large-scale drying technologies and equipment tailored for key projects, with notable success in replacing imported solutions in the domestic market.
In the petrochemical industry, the one-million-ton PTA drying technology and equipment have reached international standards, while in the steel industry, the coke oven coal moisture control device has also achieved remarkable performance. These innovations not only enhance product quality but also reduce energy consumption and improve production stability.
Building on the successful development of the 325,000-ton PTA dryer by Sinopec Luoyang Branch, the National Drying Center has continuously explored CTA/PTA drying theory and conducted industrial testing. This work has led to the verification and refinement of drying mathematical models, as well as a deeper understanding of the CTA/PTA drying process and key equipment design technologies. In 2007, Jialong Chemical Fiber Co., Ltd. completed the development and design of the CTA/PTA dryer for a 600,000-ton PTA plant.
In February of this year, China signed the contract for the development of the CTA/PTA dryer for the Sinopec Yizheng Chemical Fiber’s one-million-ton PTA project. This project represents an independent Chinese process technology, and the supporting CTA/PTA dryer is the largest domestically developed steam tube rotary dryer. It is scheduled for installation in March 2009.
The coking coal moisture control technology plays a crucial role in improving coal quality and reducing consumption. By drying coal to lower its moisture content from 10% to 6%, it minimizes heat loss in coke ovens and enhances coke quality. This ensures stable and continuous operation of the coke oven process.
The steam drying technology developed by the National Drying Center utilizes low-pressure steam from CDQ or other factory sources as a heat source. Through an efficient steam tube rotary dryer, this system enables indirect heat exchange with wet coal. The dust recycling and treatment system has been widely adopted by major steel companies such as Baoshan Iron and Steel, Shanxi Huijin Stainless Steel, and Panzhihua Iron and Steel. Its implementation has demonstrated significant energy-saving effects, environmental benefits, and economic returns.
