Voith provides modernization services for small hydropower stations in the UK

Voith recently announced the acquisition of a Mucomir small hydropower station modernization contract in Scotland. The company will be responsible for the manufacture, installation and commissioning of hydropower turbines. It will also replace the digital governor and hydraulic components of the hydropower station and will Refurbished. The entire project is expected to be completed in the fall of 2017.

SSE, the operator of the hydropower plant, is one of the largest renewable energy suppliers in the UK. It attaches great importance to the local fishery economy and knows that the operation of the Mucomir hydropower plant has a significant bearing on the success of the fish migration in the basin. Therefore, after the renovation of the Mucomir small hydropower station, the new turbine will adopt a special design to make it easier for fish to pass through, thereby avoiding adverse effects on the fish population and meeting higher environmental protection requirements.

Peter Diver, manager of Hydroelectric Assets at SSE, said: “We are very pleased to select Voith as our partner for this project. The modernization of the Mucomir small hydropower station will take full account of the economic viability of the power plant. The impact of the transformation on the ecological environment has led to the most effective technical solutions."

According to Carsten Fleck, Voith Hydro's German project manager, “The hydropower station needs to be shut down for modernization, so it is challenging to complete parts manufacturing and installation in such a time-constrained situation. But despite this, we rely on our expertise. With our extensive experience and close cooperation with the plant operator SSE, we are confident that we can successfully complete the project within the established time."
