3-Alarm brush fire in Pembroke Township, 2-20-17
This message is from Eric Haak: The Pembroke Fire Protection District responded to a third-alarm interdivisional brush fire on Monday, February 20th. The incident started around 10:30 AM and continued well into the afternoon. The affected area covered approximately one square mile of overgrown vegetation and woodlands located between 5,000 and 6,000 South roads, east of Illinois Route 56. Several structures were at risk during the event. The third image shows the arrival of the interdivisional response convoy, while the fourth image captures the use of a MABAS 19 drone to monitor the situation from above. This technology proved extremely useful, especially given the hilly terrain, allowing for better situational awareness and decision-making. For those unfamiliar with the area, Pembroke is a rural township southeast of Kankakee, Illinois. Many residents live in older homes and mobile trailers, and due to the lack of garbage collection, burning trash is a common practice. This often leads to frequent brush fires in the region. The images showing flames are of the back-burning operations conducted along the south side of East 5000 Road.
