CFD mayday at Still & Box 2-1-13 (pt2)

This is from Steve Redick.

I responded to what I thought was just a small call in the 5700 block of Newark, pretty much around the corner from Engine 119’s station. It turned into a mayday and a 2-11 alarm. It was a large bungalow under renovation, with fire reported on multiple floors. The incident was made more challenging by the ice and snow storm happening at the time. Taking photos was nearly impossible—snow ruined flash pictures, and the ambient light wasn’t enough for a good shutter speed, so the quality of these images isn’t great compared to my usual work.

At the time, I was safely across the street watching the operations when I heard some shouting about someone falling into the basement. The DDC declared a mayday, and there was quite a bit of commotion, but they quickly secured the injured person. Later, I found out that the stairway from the first to the second floor had collapsed—probably due to the ongoing renovations. I saw two firefighters being carried out on boards with neck collars, along with a few walking wounded. All units were ordered out of the building, and a "par" was called, followed by a regrouping before the incident was fully contained.

From where I was standing, I couldn't see much more than what's already been described. Maybe someone who was on scene can add more details. The video is here:

Some photos are attached. I believe everyone is okay. I'm curious how this mayday went with all the new radios and channels. I think this might have been the first emergency since the new radio system was implemented.
