The Firefighter Combat Challenge is taking place this weekend in Tinley Park at the Tinley Park Convention Center, located at 18451 Convention Center Drive, Tinley Park, IL 60477. This event brings together firefighters from across the U.S. and Canada, with participation expanding globally to countries like New Zealand, Germany, Argentina, Chile, and South Africa. The challenge not only promotes firefighter fitness but also highlights the demanding nature of the profession to the public.

**Youth Combat Challenge:**
- Young competitors tested their endurance using a miniature Keiser Force Machine.
- One of the final stages involved dragging a dummy across the finish line to simulate a rescue.
- Participants also practiced handling a hand-held fire hose, a key skill in firefighting.
**Adult Combat Challenge:**
- Competitors began by preparing for the intense physical trials ahead.
- They climbed a tower carrying heavy hose loads, simulating real-life emergency scenarios.
- At the top, they had to haul additional hose, testing their strength and stamina.
- Some used mallets to operate the Keiser Force Machine, another challenging obstacle.
- Others dragged a charged 1 3/4" hose line back to the starting point, aiming to hit a target with the nozzle.
- The final phase involved rescuing a dummy, emphasizing the critical nature of quick, efficient action.
**Apparatus on Display:**
- The Rescue Remembrance Project showcased a restored FDNY Rescue 4 truck, honoring past heroes.
- MABAS Division 24 Fire Investigation Unit displayed their specialized equipment.
- Oak Forest 951, a mobile communications van, was on display, highlighting the importance of communication during emergencies.
- A HazMat unit, including box truck #9901 and an X-Tinley Park Spartan/Darley engine, demonstrated response capabilities.
- The Cook County Emergency Operations Mobile Command Center provided a glimpse into large-scale incident management.
- The MABAS Division 24 DECON unit was also set up, showing how decontamination efforts are handled in hazardous situations.
