**I. Introduction**
Our company has recently launched a new production facility capable of processing 40,000 tons per year of methylene chloride. In selecting the equipment for this project, we conducted extensive research and adhered to an innovative approach. Based on the characteristics of the materials being transported and the production process, we opted for 27 sets of Mihai magnetic pumps. These pumps are manufactured by Dalian Sea Mi Le Sealed Pump Co., Ltd.
The Sea-Mile ladder magnetic pump is designed with advanced technology, featuring a seal-less structure that ensures leak-free operation. It is maintenance-free, reliable, and highly efficient, offering energy-saving benefits. This type of pump is ideal for transporting corrosive, toxic, flammable, explosive, expensive, or easily vaporizable liquids. Additionally, it can handle high-temperature, low-temperature, and vacuum conditions. Its zero-leakage design effectively solves common issues like dripping and leakage in fluid transportation, making it indispensable in environmental engineering and widely used in industries such as petrochemicals, refrigeration, air conditioning, and aerospace.
Compared to traditional sealed pumps, the Sea-Mile magnetic pump requires less maintenance, eliminates external lubrication, and reduces vibration and noise. However, due to its unique design, special considerations must be taken during installation, operation, and maintenance to ensure smooth and reliable performance.
**II. Features of the Sea-Mile Ladder Magnetic Pump**
1. **Structure**: The Sea-Mile ladder magnetic pump is a horizontal, completely leak-free centrifugal pump with axial suction and radial discharge. It uses a magnetic coupling to drive the shaft, eliminating the need for a mechanical seal, thus achieving "zero leakage."
2. **Bearings**: The pump’s shaft is supported by rolling bearings lubricated with internal grease, while the hydraulic sliding bearings provide additional support.
3. **Magnetic Coupling**: The magnetic coupling is made from high-quality rare earth permanent magnets, capable of withstanding temperatures up to 350–400°C. It operates synchronously with the motor, ensuring stable performance and preventing damage caused by improper assembly or excessive torque.
4. **Lubrication and Cooling**: The pump’s medium provides both lubrication and cooling for the sliding bearings, eliminating the need for external systems.
5. **Axial Force Balance**: During operation, the axial force is automatically balanced by hydraulic forces, protecting the bearing from excessive load during startup and shutdown.
**III. Common Faults and Troubleshooting**
1. **Large Fluctuations in Operating Conditions**: Sudden changes in inlet or outlet pressure can disrupt the hydraulic balance, leading to bearing damage.
2. **Cavitation**: Low inlet pressure, gas in the liquid, or insufficient filling can cause cavitation, which severely damages the impeller, rotor, and bearings.
3. **Low Flow or No Medium**: Insufficient lubrication can lead to dry friction and burning of the bearings.
4. **Isolation Sleeve Damage**: Hard particles in the medium or improper maintenance can scratch or damage the isolation sleeve.
**IV. Ways to Improve Operational Reliability**
1. **Installation Requirements**:
- Ensure piping is properly supported to avoid transferring extra loads to the pump.
- Keep the suction line short to prevent cavitation.
- Install control valves and check valves for flow regulation.
- Clean all piping thoroughly before installation.
- Include a return line with a minimum flow orifice for continuous lubrication.
2. **Process Monitoring**:
- Use level sensors to protect against dry running.
- Monitor temperature to prevent overheating.
- Install differential pressure switches to detect abnormal pressure drops.
- Ensure the pump operates within its specified flow and head range.
- Maintain a minimum suction pressure to prevent cavitation.
3. **Operational Procedures**:
- Fully prime and vent the pump before starting.
- Follow a proper start-up sequence to avoid overloading the motor.
**V. Operation and Maintenance Notes**
1. Never operate the pump in a dry state or with the outlet valve closed.
2. Ensure synchronization with the motor; if the pump fails, stop immediately.
3. Check for unusual vibration or noise, which may indicate bearing wear.
4. Regularly inspect and replace the grease in the rolling bearings.
5. A failed magnetic coupling does not necessarily mean the magnet is damaged.
6. Handle magnetic components carefully to avoid interference with electronics.
7. If the pump is idle for long periods, flush it with the appropriate fluid to prevent crystallization.
By following these guidelines, the Sea-Mile ladder magnetic pump can operate efficiently and safely, ensuring long-term reliability and minimal downtime.
