New breakthroughs in domestic petrochemical major equipment (2)

There remains a significant technological gap between China and foreign countries in the field of petrochemical equipment. Compared to international standards, China's petrochemical machinery still lags behind in several key areas. First, the development of petrochemical equipment has not kept up with the rapid advancements in petrochemical process technologies. Second, software technology for major equipment is largely based on imitation, with very few independent intellectual property rights. Third, the manufacturing of equipment lacks specialization, standardization, and mass production capabilities. Fourth, the reliability and performance of existing equipment still need improvement. Lastly, while there is an oversupply of general-purpose equipment, the capacity to produce high-end, large-scale petrochemical equipment remains insufficient. Technological innovation in this sector is not yet promising. During the "Eleventh Five-Year" Plan, China is expected to see a surge in petrochemical construction. The country's refining capacity is projected to reach 8 to 12 million tons per year, ethylene production will be between 800,000 and 1 million tons annually, and PTA (purified terephthalic acid) facilities will expand to 600,000 to 1 million tons per year. This growth is expected to drive the petrochemical equipment market to over 30 billion yuan annually. Recently, Zhu Sendi, vice president of the China Federation of Machinery Industry, highlighted the future development of the equipment manufacturing sector. He mentioned that by 2010, China aims to rank among the top three globally in terms of total output value of the equipment industry. By 2020, the long-term goal is to become a global leader in advanced equipment manufacturing, establishing itself as a major supplier of industrial equipment. The target is to achieve a 90% domestic market share for major equipment. In light of the trend toward larger-scale petrochemical projects and the existing technological gap compared to international standards, Wang Tingjun, a veteran expert in China’s petrochemical equipment industry, emphasized the need for long-term strategic planning. He suggested that China should closely follow global technological trends and the evolving needs of the petrochemical industry. Accelerating technological innovation and increasing investment in research and development are essential to enhancing the competitiveness of Chinese enterprises both domestically and internationally.
