Just recently, we wrapped up another successful microchannel conversion project at a site in South Texas for one of the biggest telecom companies around. This specific Trane model came equipped with the original microchannel setup featuring eight MCHX coils. During our conversion process, we designed and fabricated two larger coils to simplify the installation process. Additionally, we replaced the all-aluminum microchannels with more robust and efficient copper tubing instead.

Before: Trane unit with eight, all-aluminum microchannel coils.

The installation went smoothly, and the customer managed to fit the new copper tube coils back into place with just minor adjustments. To give you an idea of the scale, these coils stand over 5 feet tall and 6 feet wide, each weighing approximately 175 pounds.

Seeing the advantages of microchannel conversion and appreciating the quality of our work, the client reached out to us once more to convert their additional Trane RTUs on a quarterly basis. They also asked for a slight modification to the length of the end plate flange, increasing it by half an inch. This adjustment would extend the flange to 1.5 inches, allowing them to rest the unit’s casing on the flange and secure it using self-tapping screws.

As the saying goes, a picture speaks a thousand words. The customer shared some excellent photos of our installed coils along with specific details for the modifications they’d like applied to the other units.

The beauty of working with Nationwide Coils lies not only in our expertise as Masters of MCHX Conversion, but also in our ability to customize the design of any commercial HVAC coil, including OEM replacements. It’s highly unlikely that the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) could handle such a conversion, let alone tailor the coil to make it easier to install.

If you’re dealing with an all-aluminum microchannel, switching to a copper tube and aluminum fin coil is a practical and cost-effective way to address common leaking issues found in OEM MCHX coils. Upgrading to this configuration will not only enhance the reliability and ease of servicing your system but also maintain the OEM’s efficiency standards.

Curious about a MCHX conversion? Feel free to email us anytime. All we need is the unit’s make and model number to get started.
