SITE BITE: Converting the Microchannel in a Trane® TCD600B unit.

Our team recently completed another successful microchannel conversion project for a telecommunications client based in South Texas. This specific Trane model featured an original microchannel system composed of eight MCHX coils. During the conversion process, we constructed two larger coils, making the installation process more manageable while upgrading the existing all-aluminum microchannels to more robust and efficient copper tubing alternatives.

The installation went off without a hitch, allowing the customer to reinstall the new copper tube coils with minimal adjustments. Each coil measures over 5 feet tall and 6 feet wide, weighing approximately 175 pounds each. The transition proved to be both practical and efficient, ensuring a seamless integration into the existing setup.

Impressed with the results and the reliability of the upgraded system, the customer reached out to us again to replace additional Trane RTUs on a quarterly basis using our microchannel conversion services. They also requested a minor modification to the length of the end plate flange, extending it by half an inch. This adjustment would increase the flange length to 1.5 inches, enabling the customer to rest the unit’s casing on the flange and secure it with self-tapping screws for added stability.
