World's First 3D Printed Car Parts Print Only 44 Hours

In recent years, 3D printing technology has developed rapidly, from 3D printing flowers, printing foods, to 3D printing pistols, human organs, houses... This unimaginable technology is gradually changing our lives.

Now, 3D printing technology once again shows us its "all-powerful". Yesterday, at the "International Manufacturing Technology Exhibition" in Chicago, the world's first 3D printed car debuted. According to reports, there are only 40 parts for this 3D printing car, and they have only spent 44 hours to print. Is this the future of the automotive industry?

At the International Manufacturing Technology Show in Chicago, a car called "Strati" aroused people's interest: The car's red seat, black body and black interior, at first glance is no different from ordinary sports cars, but again It was found that its entire body was quite light. According to reports, this car consists of a total of 40 components, in addition to tires, batteries, wires, electric engine and windshield, the frame, body, seats, etc. are printed by carbon fiber. The company that printed the car was a local Motors company in Arizona. The company's employees assembled the 3D printed car directly on the spot. The CEO of the company, Rogers, was also very proud to be interviewed.

Rogers: We are the first company to use 3D printing technology to manufacture cars using carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastics. Seats, body, chassis, center console, hood, etc. are all 3D printed.

The total weight of this 3D-printed car is more than 800 kilograms. Its speed can reach 64 kilometers per hour, and it can travel more than 190 kilometers on a single charge. Rogers said that the 3D-printed cars it manufactures will go through a government review and be sold outside the country within a year, and the price is expected to be between $18,000 and $30,000. 3D printing technology is creating endless possibilities for manufacturing, but is 3D printing cars really not far away from us? Jia Xinguang, chief analyst of China Automotive Industry Consultation and Development Corporation, believes that there are no obstacles to 3D printing automotive parts at present. In terms of the entire automotive system, the symbolism of 3D printed cars that has come out is greater than practical significance.

Jia Xinguang: 3D should still be very useful in industrial manufacturing. He is equal to saying it as a beginning. But now it is still far away from the use, because its engine power part still uses the existing car, so it can not fully realize all the parts of the car are 3D printing. Now that it can print a part of it, this part of the market can not accept it, and its final product has to pass all aspects of safety and environmental protection test, so this still needs to be proved by practice.
