At the recent General Machinery Industry Association of China Pump Industry Technical Working Conference, Chairman of the Pump Branch, Tian Hongxing, emphasized that during the "Eleventh Five-Year" period, China will continue to boost investment in key sectors such as petroleum, chemicals, energy, and steel. The allocation of major national projects is expected to create significant opportunities for the development of the machinery manufacturing industry, particularly for the pump sector. As a result, the growth of the national economy and the demand from large-scale construction projects necessitate a stronger push towards the localization of major pump equipment. This has become one of the core tasks for the industry.
In response to the current state of pump technology, Secretary-General of the Pump Branch, Li Yukun, highlighted the importance of leveraging advanced foreign technologies that have already been introduced. He stressed the need for enhanced digestion, absorption, and innovation to build a self-sufficient technological foundation for China's pump industry. During the "11th Five-Year Plan" period, it is essential to explore new methods and mechanisms that align with China's specific conditions, aiming to quickly develop the industry's independent capabilities and strengthen its overall competitiveness. In addition, efforts should be made to regulate market competition, establish a fair environment, and ensure the sustainable growth of the entire sector.
Wen Shunru, head of the Technology Development Department at the China Machinery Industry Federation, also pointed out that the overall technical level of China's pump industry remains relatively low. There are still challenges in meeting market demands in terms of product variety, quality, reliability, automation, and personalization. To address these issues, he called for a stronger focus on improving the ability for independent innovation. This includes enhancing original and integrated innovation, while also making full use of the digestion and re-innovation of imported advanced technologies. Future developments should aim for products that are more distinctive, reliable, integrated, and human-centered, with breakthroughs in energy-saving technologies and new products.
During the conference, technical experts proposed several recommendations for the development of the pump industry under the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan." These included increasing R&D investment in pump products, establishing effective R&D mechanisms for new products, and encouraging enterprises to invest more in technological innovation. Additionally, they suggested focusing on the potential for domestic and export markets, with policy support aimed at helping companies expand into international markets.
Participants at the meeting reached five main consensus points: first, promoting new achievements to elevate the overall technical level of the industry; second, accelerating the revision of technical standards; third, organizing technical exchanges to learn from foreign best practices; fourth, speeding up the training of skilled personnel; and fifth, maintaining close cooperation with government departments and industry organizations to successfully bid for large-scale projects both domestically and internationally.
With these strategies in place, the Chinese pump industry aims to not only meet growing domestic needs but also position itself as a competitive player on the global stage.
