Steam jet pumps are used in the evaporation of alumina mother liquor

Through the investigation of the relationship between saturated vapor pressure and saturation temperature in a saturated sodium aluminate solution, this project introduced an optimized process to enhance the vacuum level in the flash system. This improvement allows for greater water evaporation through crystallization, thereby extending the primary crystallization cycle of the evaporated mother liquor. By selecting appropriate vacuum pump characteristics, an innovative combination of a ring vacuum pump and a steam jet pump was implemented, replacing the previous single-ring vacuum pump setup. This technology and equipment integration is the first of its kind in the alumina industry and represents a significant innovation. By applying this advanced technology, the water vaporization capacity of the evaporator group was significantly improved, resulting in an increase of 7.3 tons per hour in the evaporation rate. This achievement places the project at the forefront of domestic standards within the alumina industry. In the Zhongzhou Branch, the application of the steam jet pump in the mother liquor evaporation section has yielded impressive results. The vacuum level increased from -0.07 MPa to -0.078 MPa, while the final temperature dropped from 71°C to 65°C. The concentration of the evaporator discharge rose from 237 g/L to 245.9 g/L, and the solid salt content increased from 43.5 g/L to 56 g/L. These improvements have helped maintain alkali balance in the production process, strengthened the sintering technology, and laid a solid foundation for reducing steam consumption in the evaporators. To date, this technology has been widely adopted in the evaporation process of mother liquor during the sintering process in many aluminum companies across China, as well as in joint production processes of alumina. It has generated nearly 2 million yuan in economic benefits, demonstrating its practical value and effectiveness in industrial applications.
