A new initiative has been announced by the Yantai Maritime Department, revealing that the Ministry of Communications will allocate 39.5 million yuan to upgrade and expand six radar stations and one ship traffic management center in the Yantai Sea area of the Huanghua Sea. This project aims to achieve seamless vessel monitoring, significantly enhancing the region’s maritime surveillance capabilities and emergency response levels.
According to recent reports, under the guidelines from the Ministry of Communications, the Yantai Maritime Department is planning to construct four new radar stations on Beishan Island, Dazhushan Island, Laobei Mountain, and Lumjiao in the Changshan Islands, as well as in Penglai and Longkou. Additionally, the North Changshan Radar Station will be renovated, while a newly built Zhizhidao Radar Station will also be integrated into the system. Alongside these developments, a centralized Ship Traffic Management Center will be established, forming a comprehensive network of six radar stations and one central control hub for real-time monitoring and management of maritime traffic.
This advanced system is designed as an integrated platform that combines information sharing and remote data transmission. It will cover key shipping routes such as Yantai to Dalian, Penglai to Lushun, Penglai to Long Island, as well as critical waterways like Laotieshan, Changshan, Dengzhou, and Yantai. The system ensures full coverage of all vessels within the jurisdiction, improving monitoring efficiency and reducing the risk of incidents such as ship collisions, grounding, or unauthorized entry into restricted areas.
Furthermore, the radar display will provide a clear and intuitive view of all vessel movements, enabling the maritime authorities to quickly mobilize rescue forces in case of emergencies. This will greatly enhance the speed and effectiveness of emergency responses in the region.
The project is part of the National Water Transportation Safety Supervision and Rescue System Plan, highlighting its importance in ensuring safe and efficient maritime operations. The Yantai Maritime Safety Administration oversees a vast area of approximately 21,000 square kilometers, including over 70 islands and a coastline stretching 910 kilometers with 10 major ports. With nearly 200,000 commercial vessels passing through annually, the area is known for its complex navigational conditions, high traffic density, and challenging weather, making it a crucial focus for national maritime safety efforts.
